The Library and Information Centre
The library in Harare, like all the other ILO libraries, has joined the ILO Global Information Network. It is a project which seeks to make LABORDOC (the ILO main library database) – the single point of access for all library collections and ILO knowledge, in the field and at HQ.
The Library’s collection is composed of documents, journals, reports and publications on economic and social development, employment, labour issues, social security, management, occupational health and safety, child labour, gender issues and women in the World of Work, training, and labour statistics in keeping with the new orientation of the ILO as a knowledge, advocacy and service organization. The collection also holds country-specific information on countries in the sub-region, namely : Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The Library provides access to ILO databases on CD-ROM; these include LABORDOC, ILOLEX, NATLEX, and the Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety among others.
In its role as the information centre, the Library and Information Centre plays a central role as the liaison office for contacts with ILO constituents, the media, the UN and NGO community, civil society, researchers, other affiliate institutions and the general public.
The Centre responds to email, telephone, fax as well as personal requests for information.
