Labour Market Information System (LMIS)

SRO Database (formely SAMATData) – a live database of labour market information that covers the entire SADC region. The database provides a broad picture of the labour market situation in SADC countries and also serves as a model for member States’ constituents who wish to create their own databases. SAMATData can be accessed through the Sub-Regional office website.

In addition, technical support is being provided on the development and improvement of labour market information system for the collection and dissemination of labour market indicators in the Southern Africa region in light of the Key Indicators of the Labour Market programme (KILM), launched by the ILO in 1999 . In carrying out this activity, ILO/SRO works in close collaboration with the KILM team and the Bureau of Statistics ( STAT), based at the Headquarters in Geneva, within the framework of the Labour Market Indicators Library (LMIL) project launched by the KILM team in collaboration with STAT. As a result ILO/SRO serves as a repository of labour market information in the region. Support is provided to constituents in identifying barriers to LMIS development and in the analysis of labour market functioning and processes and the monitoring and evaluation of labour market policies and programmes taking into consideration the informal economy, the gender dimension, the impact of HIV/AIDS on SMEs, cooperative development and the promotion of social dialogue.
