Entrepreneurship and ILO tools

SRO Cairo organized a one-day workshop, under the auspices of the Ministry of Manpower and Migration (MOMM), to present ILO's programmes and tools to boost entrepreneurship to relevant national authorities, NGOs, international agencies and the donors (April 2006). The event was held in Cairo, but participants from Alexandria and Menya could join in the presentations and discussions through videoconferencing. The workshop highlighted the importance of these tools, which have proved successful in over 100 countries worldwide over the past 20 years, in boosting entrepreneurship in Egypt, in particular:

• Know About Business (KAB), to advocate entrepreneurship among students in schools and universities and training centres;

• Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB), for persons who want to create their own enterprises and entrepreneurs already in business who wish to improve their performance;

• Gender and Entrepreneurship Together (GET Ahead), for women entrepreneurs;

• Expand Your Business (EYB), for growth-oriented small and medium enterprises;
• Growth Oriented Women Entrepreneurs (GoWE);
• Micro-finance

As follow up, the SRO Cairo is preparing two projects: One to develop an entrepreneurship culture (with youth and women as special targets), using ILO's Know About Business (KAB) tools; the other on the creation and development of MSMEs, that combines ILO's Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB), Improve Your Business (IYB) and Expand Your Business (EYB) Programmes with and micro-financing tools.
