Research on Decent Work

Addressing the Decent Work Deficit in African Agriculture

The ILO’s mission today is to promote opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. This mission is pursued through the introduction of comprehensive programmes, Decent Work Country Programmes, that aim at an integrated approach to achieve the ILO’s four strategic objectives i.e. the promotion of rights at work; employment; social protection; and social dialogue. Decent Work Country Programmes bring governments, employers and workers together respond to the demand for decent work placed upon them by individuals, families and the international community.

The Regional Office provides support to ILO offices and constituents in the region in the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Decent Work Country Programmes. It facilitates the sharing of experiences and good practices throughout the region to ensure a coherent approach.

The Regional Office also undertakes and coordinates research on decent work in the region, publishing the results of the research in the form of working papers and through this website.
