    28 April 2009 - More than 250 representatives from government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, staff members from the Public Health Department of Addis Ababa University and the International Labour Organization (ILO) called for a strong safety culture at work on 26th April at a public rally in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

    23 April 2009 - The President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Girma Wolde Giorgis opened the first national tripartite symposium on “Mitigating the present economic and job crisis through decent work and social dialogue” held under the auspices of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Addis Ababa.

    • ILO Warns Economic Crisis Could Generate up to 22 Million More Unemployed Women in 2009, Jeopardize Equality Gains at Work and at Home: Gender Inequality in African Agriculture
      6 March 2009 - The economic crisis is expected to increase the number of unemployed women by up to 22 million in 2009, the International Labour Office (ILO) says in its annual Global Employment Trends for Women report, released here today, adding that the global jobs crisis is expected to worsen sharply with the deepening of the recession in 2009. - (ILO/09/15)

    • World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2008: Ethiopia to Mobilize Workers, Employers and Governments on Managing Risks at Work
      29 April 2008 - The world of work is to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work this year, amid a new call by the International Labour Office (ILO) for managing risks in the work environment to reduce both the human and the economic burdens of work-related accidents and ill health.
    • ILO Director-General to visit the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
      22 April 2008 - The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr. Juan Somavia, will pay an official visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from April 23-25 to attend the Sixth Ordinary Session of the Labour and Social Affairs Commission (LSAC) of the African Union (AU).

    • Creating Awareness on Ethiopia’s Labour Law Proclamation through Social Dialogue
      26 May 2008 - An awareness raising workshop on Ethiopia’s Labour Law Proclamation will be organised in Nazareth from 26-30 May 2008. The workshop will be organised by the International Labour Organization in collaboration with the Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association.

    • World Day Against Child Labour, Education – the right response to Child Labour
      12 June 2008 - The International Labour Organization (ILO) joins forces with its social partners : Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MOLSA), Ethiopian Employers’ Federation (EEF), the Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions (CETU) ; as well as other organisations namely KURET programme on child labour (representing World Vision Ethiopia and the International Rescue Committee), Multi-purpose Community Development, Forum on Street Children and Children Aid Ethiopia, to observe the World Day against Child Labour, 12 June 2008.

    • The ILO donates computers and printers to the Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions
      02 September 2008 - The International Labour Organisation Sub Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ILO SRO) today handed over a laptop and two printers worth USD 3000.00 (three thousand US dollars) to the Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions (CETU) which is part of a local capacity programme coordinated by the ILO Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV).
