The ILO celebrates its 90th Anniversary in April 2009. The overall theme of the celebrations is “Social Dialogue on Decent Work for a Fair Globalization”, which underlines the ILO’s enduring quest for social justice, starting with the Constitution in 1919, reinforced by the Philadelphia Declaration in 1944 and the 1998 Declaration on the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and again powerfully reconfirmed by the Declaration on Social Justice in 2008.
In Ethiopia, the ILO 90th Anniversary will be marked by a range of coordinated national and regional events, which will take place during the week of 21-28 April. A National Tripartite Preparatory Team, chaired by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MOLSA), and comprising the Ethiopian Employers Federation (EEF), and Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions (CETU) is responsible for the planning and implementation of the events.
The celebrations in Ethiopia will be marked under the theme: “Poverty reduction through Decent Work: The Implications of the global financial Crisis”, which underpins the Government commitment to end poverty through a series of multi-sectoral strategies enshrined in its Plan for Accelerated and Sustained Development to End Poverty (PASDEP). Planned activities include national symposium, exhibition, media related activities and essay competition among Addis Ababa schools - [pdf, 66 KB].
