About Us

ILO Sub-Regional Offices (SROs) provide technical support and guidance for ILO Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCPs) and activities in the countries which fall under their geographical jurisdiction.

The ILO Sub-Regional Office (SRO) for Eastern Africa, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, renders technical advisory services to Ethiopia and Djibouti as well countries covered by the three ILO Offices in the sub-region. These are ILO Dar es Salaam (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Somali), LO Antananarivo (Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Comoros), and ILO Abuja (Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone).

The mix of technical skills in the SRO, consistent with the four strategic objectives, is intended to enable the ILO to respond more effectively and on timely manner to the multi-disciplinary nature of the services expected of the Organization. The technical services focus on enhancing the capacities of constituents (governments, employers and workers) in the areas of policy development, programme and project design, and adoption of the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP), in support of the national economic and social development policies and strategies.

The technical support also ensures appropriate links are maintained in relation to the development and rights based approaches of the ILO, and the UN, in particular the ILO Decent Work Agenda (DWA), the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for each country.
