Ministers and representatives of governments and leaders of employers‘ and workers‘ organizations participating in the 11th African Regional Meeting thank the Government of Ethiopia for hosting this event. Its hospitality and efficient organization have contributed greatly to its success.

DWCPs in Africa are developed and implemented as integral parts of global, regional and national development frameworks. This includes the MDGs, the ILO 2008 Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, AU Plan of Action on Employment and Poverty Alleviation, the ILO Decent Work Agenda for Africa and PRSP.

The ILO Regional Office for Africa is located in Addis Ababa, home to the African Union (AU) and the UN Economic Commision for Africa (ECA). The Regional Office is responisble for planning and coordinating the work of ILO's network of 13 offices throughout Africa. At the regional level it works closely with the AU and ECA, and through them with the Regional Economic Communities, to promote decent work in Africa.

Decent Work and the Millennium Development Goals


The goal of Decent Work for All and the pledges in the Millennium Declaration go hand in hand. The ILO’s Decent Work Agenda, in a context of fair globalization, is essential to the achievement of these shared aims.The information folder linked below includes one brief for each of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
