HIV/AIDS and the world of work: tackling the consequences for labour and socio-economic development
The goal of the project is to raise awareness among the ILO constituents and other stakeholders on the labour and
social implications of HIV/AIDS and to promote the ILO code of practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work. Ten African countries are included in the project: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Senegal, Swaziland, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.
Research is in progress into socio-economic impact (labour market, skills levels, productivity and workers' families), and reviews are taking place of policy documents and labour legislation.
The results of the research will be presented to tripartite national workshops with the aim of developing a national action plan for a response to HIV/AIDS in the world of work.
This has already taken place in Ethiopia and a national code of conduct is in preparation.
