Prevention of HIV/AIDS in the world of work: a tripartite response (India)
The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Labour and employers' and workers' organizations to develop workplace policies and programmes on HIV/AIDS, and to help the existing AIDS control mechanisms at national and state levels incorporate a strategy for the workplace. Some of the major achievements of the first phase, which has just been completed, include:
• production of a collection of case studies on enterprise impact and responses
• development of training manuals on HIV/AIDS prevention and care for trade unions and for employers
• the training of 240 worker educators
• a training module to guide NGOs implementing HIV/AIDS programmes in the informal sector
• a demonstration project with the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society for involvement of the corporate sector in HIV/AIDS.
