Technical cooperation
ILO/AIDS has projects with its constituents and a range of donor partners in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe,
Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Programme has focal points and technical specialists in offices in all regions.
A report provides an overview of the role of technical cooperation in achieving the objectives of the ILO’s Programme on HIV/AIDS.
Key activities are highlighted, illustrating different approaches developed, tested and used in a range of situations.
Lessons learned and challenges are discussed, and priority areas identified for future action.

| Activities include the following: |
| • | Advisory services for governments on labour legislation and policy issues, especially concerning discrimination (see Code of Practice) |
| • | Projects with the social partners – including guidance in the application of the Code of Practice and the initiation of comprehensive workplace programmes on HIV/AIDS, covering prevention, care and impact mitigation. |
| • | Training programmes are in place to strengthen the capacity of ILO’s tripartite constituents in strategic planning, policy development and programme implementation at all levels. A range of resource materials
are available to guide trainers.

Donor partners
Country-level activities are made possible through financial support and from collaboration
with a number of development and cooperation agencies, in addition to resources made available through the UN system.
Projects with five bilateral partners - Germany (GTZ), Italy, OPEC Fund, Sweden, and the US Department of Labor - are at various stages of implementation.
With UNAIDS funding, the ILO also has nationally-executed projects on HIV/AIDS and the world of work.
ILO's field offices assist these projects and also take initiatives to promote and support action by the tripartite partners at country level.
