STEP is a global programme of the Social Security Department centered on the poor and excluded populations in the informal economy as well as in the rural sector. STEP works in two complementary fields: extension of the social security in the field of health and the approaches integrated of fight against social exlusion into local level.

  • December 11 - 12, 2007 - New Delhi - First AMIN forum meeting

    The aim of AMIN is to bring together local initiatives in order to advocate and move towards national solidarity systems. The objectives of the first regional meeting is to bring together AMIN permanent members in order to discuss the functioning and strategy of the association, and to interact and learn from the different local and global experiences of all the actors that will be present.

  • November, 2007 - The new version of the Learning and Resource Centre on Social Inclusion (CIARIS) is now available online.

    This version is a Web 2.0 application. Its main characteristics are the possibility of creating users' communities and a bundle of services that facilitate collaboration and the sharing of information and experiences amongst users.

  • November 26 - 27, 2007 - Dakar - Coordination network forum

    The 4th Coordination Network Forum took place on 26-27 November 2007 in Dakar. This year, the general theme was "Networks of health mutual organizations in the extension of social protection and poverty reduction".

  • November 9 - 11, 2007 - Montevideo-Uruguay - First meeting of the ACYM network

    The ACYM (América Cooperativa y Mutual) network aims at contributing to, and developing health mutual and co-operative organisations by helping them to exchange experiences and information. This network was initiated by the International Labour Office, STEP Programme, the Alianza des Mutualismo de América (AMA), the International Health Co-operative Organisation (IHCO), and the Americas Association of Cooperative/Mutual Insurance Societies (AAC/MIS).

  • September - Launching of the quarterly newsletter: G-NEWS 2

    G-NEWS is the quarterly newsletter of GIMI and GESS platforms, which is available in English, French and Spanish and gathers relevant information about the extension of social security and about microinsurance. It describes recent initiatives (new systems, studies, etc.); presents trainings, workshops and conferences; highlights key resources; identifies new sites and events on the web; proposes a feature article and interviews. G-NEWS is a collaborative product based on your contributions. You can share your experiences in a space dedicated to this on GIMI and GESS ("Community news") or send an e-mail to gimi@ilo.org or gess@ilo.org.

  • September - Launching of the GESS platform on the global extension of social security

    The GESS Internet platform was developed as a key instrument for the ILO’s Social Security Department in the management of knowledge on the extension of social security. GESS provides a complete and easily accessible set of resources, tools (guides) and services (online technical assistance and training) to design and implement extension strategies and systems tailored to national and local contexts. It is also a space for exchange and collaboration that enables actors in social security to learn from each other’s experiences with a view to the extension of social security on a global scale. This innovative tool make it possible to create a global network to facilitate collaboration on concrete projects. The site is available in English only for the time being, but will be available in French and Spanish soon.
