Extending social protection through micro-insurance schemes for women in the informal economy
|

Objectives: To improve the living conditions of organized women in the informal economy and their families, through their access to better health services
Main activities: Technical support related to the setting up and management of health micro-insurance schemes, wide awareness activities on how the promotion of health micro-insurance schemes, run by women’s organizations, can form part of poverty alleviation programmes targeting poor women
Main results: National partner organizations identified, agreements concluded with key official departments and projects, case studies conducted, national coordinators being recruited

Objectives : To establish annuity based defined contribution pension scheme for private sector employee scheme
Main activities : Research activities, conduct of technical studies and preparation of reports and recommendations

Development of social security
|
Main donor : International Labour Office (ILO)
Objectives : To review the progress of social security reform and to identify weaknesses and determine technical assistance requirements
Main activities : Study and analysis of social security provision and administration relating to pensions, unemployment, health insurance, employment injury insurance and the needs of rural and migrant workers
Main results : Formulation of report and preparation of technical cooperation project document for consideration by donor agencies.

Reconstruction of the social security system
|
Main donor : Government of the Netherlands
Objectives : To provide a more meaningful range of social security benefits to a much larger section of the population
Main activities : Achieve consensus on extension of coverage and on restructuring of social security scheme into a public trust fund - preparation of proposals for benefit reform and strengthening of operations
Main results : Progress in consensus on reform but legislation not yet enacted and improvements in governance and extension of social protection will be focussed on proposed second phase

Women empowerment through employment and health
|
Main donor : United States Department of Labour
Objectives : To provide technical advisory services to all project stakeholders and to build a network and create synergy between government policies and NGO initiatives on extending social protection to informal sector workers
Main activities : Direct support to Grameen Kalyan and BRAC in order to promote and extend their own micro health insurance schemes combined with advocacy and awareness-raising activities at the national level
Main results : Increased access to quality health care services for targeted women and their families through micro-insurance schemes , increased support from policymakers and partner organizations

Improving the quality of sexual and reproductive health care
|
Main donor : United Nations Foundation (UNF)
Objectives : To improve quality and access to reproductive health care through empowerment of excluded groups and new forms of collaboration between providers and user groups
Main activities : Sensitization activities, promotion of collaborations between user groups and health providers using a systematic approach that accounts for both demand and supply, promotion of health micro-insurance schemes to facilitate access to health services
Main results : National partner organizations identified, preparation of first training activities

Extending the coverage of social protection to the poor and the excluded
|
Main donor : The Netherlands
Objectives : To support the country in strengthening efficiency and increasing equity and in the development of a national action plan for extending social security coverage through social dialogue
Main activities : Direct technical support in capacity building on social security for main stakeholders, diagnosis on social security provisions, implementation of social dialogue and elaboration of a national action plan
Main results : First phase of social dialogue process, diagnosis and training on social security.
