Inventories of micro-insurance schemes

Since 2007 STEP conducts a permanent inventory of microinsurance schemes in Africa, Asia and Latin America through online questionnaires. This permanent inventory will make it possible to follow up the schemes and to capture their principal evolutions.

    The Inventory aims at identifying the main community-based micro-insurance schemes currently operating in the Philippines. The study seeks to identify and provide basic documentation on these schemes in various sectors, including: (i) health care, (ii) life insurance, (iii) accidents, (iv) asset insurance, and others.

    At present, it is considered that more than 90 % of the Indian population still does not benefit from any kind of social protection. Being not protected against the various risks they face on a daily basis, broad segments of the population remain caught in a continuing cycle of vulnerability and poverty.

    This report constitutes an inventory of thirty-six micro-insurance schemes operating in Bangladesh (October 2003). It provides a range of information on micro-insurance schemes available to income-poor and low-income earners.

    This inventory gives an overview of existing and newly planned micro-insurance schemes in Nepal. It is intended for promoters and practitioners of micro-insurance schemes, including Government, employers’ organizations and trade unions throughout the region.
  • Inventaire des mutuelles de santé en Afrique. Synthèse des travaux de recherche dans 11 pays.

    This document is a synthesis of the main results of the second inventory done by the Cooperation Network in 2003 (results of the first inventory, 2000, as well as country reports are available in Cooperation Network site). At present, Cooperation Network works on collecting and updating data to create a more homogeneous database that will allow comparative studies.
  • Health micro-insurance: A compendium.

    This compendium provides key information on 130 health micro-insurance systems from 26 countries and 3 continents. Its main aim is to serve as a facilitating tool for interested parties who would like to initiate contact with HIMS operators and developers.
