  • Workshop in Ouagadougou organized by UEMOA

    Starting November 29 to December 1st., 2006 UEMOA organizes, in partnership with the ILO, a regional workshop to finalize the preliminary regulation project on mutual social organizations in UEMOA countries. Download the workshop brochure • pdf 609 KB in French

  • World Conference

    The International Labour Office, the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity of Portugal, and the European Commission jointly organized the World Conference "Social Protection and Inclusion: Converging efforts from a global perspective" in Lisbon, 2-3 October, 2006.     This Conference was held within the framework of the common objective established between the three organizing bodies, to promote "Decent Work for All". The event was organized within the scope of the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Portuguese Republic and the International Labour Organization (ILO) for the implementation of the project "Fight against Social Exclusion" (STEP/Portugal 2).


  • Launch of GIMI platform (Global Information on Micro-Insurance)

    Launch of GIMI platform (Global Information on Micro-Insurance). GIMI is a dynamic online platform connecting actors for the advancement of micro-insurance and the integration of micro-insurance schemes into national strategies for the extension of social security. It offers practical support to micro-insurance actors in the design, implementation and management of schemes. For more information.

  • Launch of a new stage of the component Fight Against Social Exclusion of STEP Programme

    As a result of the International Conference organized in Lisbon, the Government of Portugal has agreed its support to ILO for a two-year period (2007-2008) to carry out the project “Fight against social exclusion – STEP/Portugal”. This project aims to support capacities and knowledge development regarding social inclusion based on CIARIS and to support the extension of social protection and fight against exclusion in Portuguese-speaking African countries.

    Social protection and inclusion: Experiences and policy issues.
    This book focuses on the role of social protection in the process towards inclusion in economic, social and political life. It presents some of the most innovative and promising experiences worldwide in this field. Some chapters examine the role of new social assistance programmes in the fight against poverty and combating exclusion. They stress the need for the development of social assistance schemes that act on several dimentions of poverty simultaneously.

  • New Social Security Department

  • AMIN New Website

    The regional micro insurance network AMIN, which brings together practitioners of 22 of the most important micro insurance schemes in Asia, has launched its new website.

  • Agency CIARIS Portugal

    Find out more about CIARIS Portugal, an Agency which supports the actors involved in the fight against poverty and social exclusion in Portugal.

  • Health Micro-Insurance Schemes: Feasibility Study Guide, Volume 1 and 2
