Working areas

STEP activities in Senegal beneficiate from various favourable factors among which the existence of a well-organized civil society is materialized by a multitude of organizations. This context recognizes that the activities of the programme are dense in this country. The experiences supported in Senegal have also allowed getting an important knowledge base and making STEP programme’s objectives and methodology to evolve gradually.

STEP in Senegal includes its interventions in the framework of the Strategic Document to Reduce Poverty (DSRP) in which the Social Protection National Strategy (SNPS) constitutes one of the main axis. The SNPS sets the common political vision of all social protection actors at a national level.

In Senegal, programme activities are oriented toward the support to large scope systems (national coverage and important target populations) aiming in particular populations of the informal economy. Based on these experiences developed by health micro-insurance, these systems need to create new mechanisms for information flow management, technical management and financing systems.
