Senegal - Health insurance system for workers of the road transport sector

In December 2004, the workers of the road transport sector gathered within the National Syndicate of Workers Road Transports of Senegal (SNTTRS) have included social protection in the objectives of their revendicative platform.

The Ministry of Labour has asked STEP programme in Senegal to support the process of the workers of the road transport sector. The priority highlighted is the research and the setting up of a form of health protection, the most appropriate for the members of this sector.

The National Committee of Social Dialog (CNDS), by setting up an ad hoc commission on the extension of social protection, has elaborated a priority plan of action. Social coverage for workers of the transports sector constitutes a priority of this plan of action. Indeed, CNDS mission is to introduce the national charter on social dialog (adopted in November 2002) that has made of social protection an absolute priority in the framework of the reinforcement of social cohesion.
