Senegal - PAMECAS

Micro-finance institutions become more and more important in health insurance, in both intervening in the setting up systems or contributing to the diffusion of health insurance products.

After the successful experience of MECIB healthcare mutual organization, PAMECAS network - Union of mutual organizations in partnership for the mobilization of savings and credit in Senegal whereof MECIB is a member- has started the extension of the system to all its members.

Following the workshops that took place in Dakar in the framework of the project « Support to the elaboration of a regional framework for the development of healthcare mutual organizations in UEMOA countries », the Ministry of Health, more precisely the CAFSP (Cellule d’Appui au Financement de la Santé et au Partenariat) has taken the initiative of engaging a reflection about the relations between micro-finance and micro-insurance.

The objective is to engage a reflection about different forms of possible partnerships between these two kinds of organizations, to question about the support that legislative framework may give to enable and reinforce partnerships.
