The Social Security Department has over the years developed a varied selection of didactical and methodological tools to assist in its work and also to provide guidance to professionals working in the field of social security and to those interested to learn more about social security issues.
The wide range of tools developed by the Department range from publications in the social security field to specific internet learning platforms. These products include:
- a broad range of publications which range from general introductions to social security to more technical country specific technical cooperation reports on actuarial valuations of social security schemes. See publications;
- a set of guides for example relating to the establishment and operation of micro-insurance schemes: awareness-raising, feasibility, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation. See STEP tools;
- a database on social security legislations - NATLEX - in ILO member countries maintained by the International Labour Standards Department, to which the Social Security Department provides some input;
- a set of quantitative governance tools ranging from PC based tools for short, medium and long term demographic and financial projections for social security schemes (population projections, social budgeting, actuarial) to quality monitoring mechanisms. - an Electronic Learning and Resources Centre in Social Inclusion (CIARIS) which provides knowledge and skills, methods and practical tools helpful in combating social exclusion related activities at the local level. See CIARIS;
