The Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187)

Events: Montserrat

  • Keynote Speech
    Organized by: Ministry of Labour
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work will be marked in Montserrat with a keynote speech on occupational safety and health (OSH) by the Minister of Labour, the Honourable Roselyn Cassell-Sealy. The Minister will say that the Government of Montserrat will in 2008 conform to international OSH best practices and adopt and publish a set of guidelines for workers and employers to follow in this area. These guidelines will be a first for Montserrat and a precursor to the enactment of legislation in this area. This is a formal indication that the Government of Montserrat attaches a high level of respect to OSH in order to reduce the increasing burden on the national health care system stemming from accidents at work. It also signals the Government's formal compliance with international occuaptional safety and health obligations. The address will mark the commencement of the annual Labour Week in Montserrat, which culminates with a march and rally on the 5th of May (Labour Day).
