    Organized by: Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
    A commemorative poster developed by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is available via its website in both print and electronic formats free of charge. Additionally, CCOHS devoted a section of its website (which includes the latest Canadian injury/fatality statistics) to the National Day of Mourning. The CCOH featured the Day of Mourning in the March issue of its electronic newsletter, which is distributed to 20,000+ subscribers in 110 countries.
  • Minute of Silence, Article and Announcements
    Organized by: Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA)
    The Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA) will orchestrate a minute of silence on the 28th of April (11:00 a.m.). All staff are encouraged to participate. Additionally, a matte article will be distributed to Ontario media and public service annoucements will be aired on a Toronto talk radio station for a week period prior to the 28th of April. The IAPA is collaborating closely with Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, which has donated posters as well as ribbons for the IAPA staff to wear to honour the day.

    Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) will hold a ceremony on the 28th of April (10:00 a.m.) at Queen's Park. Representatives from the Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA) will attend the event.
  • Awarness Activity
    Organized by: Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
    In order to highlight asbestos on the 28th of April, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is urging members to mark Canada's National Day of Mourning by drawing attention to the dangers of asbestos and other concerns, such as the insidious harassment, bullying and violence directed at workers, and the harmful effects of the privatization of health and safety. Members are asked to challenge the fact that Canadian workplaces are amongst the worst offenders in the industrialized world, with the fifth highest incident rate of worker fatalities of the 29 countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

    Organized by: Canadian Auto Workers (CAW)
    The Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) has drawn attention to occupational safety and health through a brochure produced by the Ban Asbestos Canada Network (BAC) to be handed out by members at 28th of April events. BAC, a coalition of labour, public health, environmental and human rights groups, academic and scientific experts, concerned citizens and victims and their families seeks just compensation for those affected by asbestos, a national registry of asbestos diseases, and a just transition for those still working in the asbestos industry. It is dedicated to banning all types of asbestos worldwide and to supporting the Rotterdam Convention and related UN Conventions and programs. BAC challenges the Canadian government to take responsibility for the impact its long-standing promotion of asbestos has had on Canadians and people abroad.

    Organized by: Canadian Labour Congress (CLC)
    The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) will host a National Day of Mourning ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, the 28th of April at the CLC Monument in Ottawa's Vincent Massey Park. Speakers will include: CLC President, Ken Georgetti, New Democratic Party Leader, Jack Layton, Canadian Building Trade Director of Canadian Affairs, Robert Blakely, and President of the Ottawa & District Labour Council, Sean McKenny.
