The theme of the Congress "Safe, Healthy and Decent Work: The Role of Labour Inspection" bears high relevance for the agenda of the ILO, since economic constraints and changes in the world of work are pressuring labour inspectors to take on more and more responsibilities to obtain Decent Work worldwide.

As for the new president of the Organization, the delegates elected Ms. Michele Patterson of Australia. She has been assigned a three-year mandate to lead the IALI. She said: "IALI has a strengthened capacity to influence and promote strategies to make safe, healthy and decent work a reality around the world. … Through it's world-wide membership, IALI, in collaboration with the ILO, can make a significant contribution towards the development of regional co-operation programmes to achieve this goal."
