In response to calls from ILO constituents and the directions given by
the Director General in his reports
Decent Work in 1999, and Reducing the Decent Work Deficit - a global challenge in 2001, the ILO has decided to step up efforts to reinvigorate its international labour standards.
Recognizing that safe work is decent work
and the vital importance of improving protection at the workplace,
the initial focus of these efforts is on
standards related activities in the area of occupational
safety and health (OSH). Based on an in-depth examination of this area, the
objective is to develop a plan of action to increase the coherence, relevance and impact of
OSH standards. This work will eventually lead up to a general discussion at the
International Labour Conference. To find out more ...
In order to enrich the discussion on this issue and to assist the
ILO in targeting its standards-related activities, the
Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment
(SafeWork) and the Standards Policy and Information Branch of the International
Labour Standards Department (POLNORM) cordially invite you to take part in an exchange
of views on these issues in a publicly available
WebForum. |
