CIS Database of Legislative Texts on OSH
(LEGOSH)

[Index]

The Database of Legislative Texts on Occupational Safety and Health (LEGOSH) that we present here consists of references to more than 3500 (as of 2001) laws, regulations and international legal instruments dealing with OSH matters in approximately 140 countries and international organizations. References to the ILO's OSH-related Conventions are of course also included.

These legal texts are classified according to two main criteria:

  • Jurisdiction (country, lower-level jurisdiction [state, province, etc.] or international organization)

  • Subject categories

The database is presented in static and dynamic HTML files. The static Index lists countries, provinces and international organizations, with hyperlinks to further static (country, province, organization) index files. In these second level indexes, individual titles are organized by subject category and linked to their dynamic description. In addition, within the scope of a country with lower-level jurisdictions, the subject category lists of these jurisdictions and federal legislation are interlinked.

Within each subject category, further sorting is chronological, with the most recent legal texts listed first. Titles in bold face are the major texts (laws, decrees etc.), while those printed with normal lettering are subsidiary pieces of legislation.

Please note that the hyperlinks in the above mentioned indexes are not underlined. You can click on any word of any item in the lists to load the referred item.

In the description of individual titles you can find the original and other-language title(s), an abstract, descriptors (from the CIS Thesaurus), further bibliographic data, and hyperlinks to the full text version of the legislative text if available on the Internet.

As to the scope of the documents in this database, it includes all OSH legislation included in the CISDOC database that CIS has been maintaining since 1973. Over the years, CIS has tried to cover as much of the world's legislation of OSH matters as it could, and certainly all the major laws from around the world. It must be stressed that CIS does not claim completeness in any way. The ILO maintains another database, NATLEX, which covers labour law in general. This database may include some items on OSH that are not included in ours. If you wish to have a complete overview of OSH-related legislation in specific jurisdictions, however, you must seek competent legal advice in the country concerned.

While browsing our database you may find that certain data elements are missing or obsolete. We would be pleased to receive from you correction/extension information as well as other remarks on our database.
