Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides and iodine. The solution in water is a weak acid.

Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.

NOTES
The substance is a widely used topical antiseptic and it has been only very rarely associated to any adverse effects during its normal use.
