TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. NO open flames. Powder. Foam. Carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   AVOID ALL CONTACT! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation Burning sensation. Cough. Sore throat. Laboured breathing. Shortness of breath. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes). Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
Skin Redness. Pain. Skin burns. Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Pain. Redness. Severe deep burns. Face shield. or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Shock or collapse. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Rinse mouth. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING
Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours. Consult an expert in large spills! Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Carefully collect remainder. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. UN classification
UN Hazard Class: 8
UN Pack Group: II

Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE SAFE STORAGE
Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-80GC7-II+III Separated from food and feedstuffs.

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS LIQUID

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV: (Ceiling value) 0.1 mg/m³; (skin); (ACGIH 2002).
MAK: sensitization of skin (Sh); (DFG 2007).

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C; on spraying or dispersing, however, much faster.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of high concentration of the fume of this substance may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Corrosive on ingestion.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Boiling point: 273°C
Melting point: 14.1°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.05
Solubility in water: good
Vapour pressure, Pa at 25°C: 4
Flash point: 134°C o.c.
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 0.18
The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.

NOTES
The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential.
The occupational exposure limit value should not be exceeded during any part of the working exposure.
Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See section Occupational Exposure Limits.
Card has been partially updated in January 2008: see Fire fighting, Ingestion First Aid.
