TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. NO open flames. NO contact with oxidants. Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with acid(s), oxidants.   In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

EXPOSURE   PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! STRICT HYGIENE!
Inhalation Headache. Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Local exhaust or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! (Further see Inhalation). Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention. Wear protective gloves when administering first aid.
Eyes Redness. Pain. Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Abdominal pain. (Further see Inhalation). Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
YELLOW TO COLOURLESS LIQUID, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on contact with strong oxidants, reducing agents, acids or bases producing toxic fumes, causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks some forms of plastic, rubber, and coatings. On combustion, forms nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV: 2 ppm as TWA; (skin); (ACGIH 2004).
MAK: skin absorption (H); Carcinogen category: 2; Germ cell mutagen group: 3B; (DFG 2004).

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance is irritating to the eyes. The substance may cause effects on the blood, resulting in formation of methaemoglobin. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
The substance may have effects on the liver, blood and testes.

The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms. The substance may cause long-term effects in the aquatic environment.

NOTES
Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available.
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
Card has been partly updated in April 2005. See section Occupational Exposure Limits.
