TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION         FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames. Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! STRICT HYGIENE! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation Convulsions. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramp, excessive salivation. Sweating. Unconsciousness. Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! (See Inhalation). Protective clothing. Protective gloves. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Pupillary constriction. Blurred vision. Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion (See Inhalation). Abdominal cramps. Diarrhoea. Vomiting. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS TO PALE YELLOW OILY LIQUID, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on burning producing phosphorous oxides and sulfur oxides.

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system. Cholinesterase inhibitor. Medical observation is indicated. The effects may be delayed. Exposure may result in death.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Relative density (water = 1): 1.2
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20°C: 2.2
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: 0.04
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 1.32
The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms. This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to honey bees, mammals and birds. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use.

NOTES
Demeton-methyl is a mixture of Demeton-S-methyl and Demeton-O-methyl.
If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s).
Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties.
Also consult ICSC 0429 Demeton-O-methyl, ICSC 0705 Demeton-S-methyl.
Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available.
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated.
Metasystox is a trade name.
