| TYPES OF HAZARD / EXPOSURE |
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS | PREVENTION | FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING |
| FIRE | Not combustible but enhances combustion of other substances. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. Heating will cause rise in pressure with risk of bursting. | In case of fire in the surroundings: in large fires: water spray; in small fires: powder. | |
| EXPLOSION | Risk of fire and explosion. Mixture with water or water vapour explodes violently on spark ignition. | In case of fire: cool cylinder by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position. | |
| EXPOSURE | AVOID ALL CONTACT! | ||
| Inhalation | Cough. Headache. Laboured breathing. Sore throat. | Closed system and ventilation. | Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer immediately for medical attention. |
| Skin | See Notes. | Remove contaminated clothes. | |
| Eyes | Causes watering of the eyes. | Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. | First rinse with plenty of water (remove contact lenses if easily possible). Refer for medical attention. |
| Ingestion | Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. | ||
| SPILLAGE DISPOSAL | PACKAGING & LABELLING | Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Personal protection: gas-tight chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus. | UN classification UN Hazard Class: 2.3 UN Subsidiary Risks: 5.1 and 8 GHS classification Signal: Danger Flam circle-Cylinder-Skull May cause or intensify fire; oxidizer Contains gas under pressure; may explode if heated Fatal if inhaled gas |
| EMERGENCY RESPONSE | SAFE STORAGE | Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-20G1TOC | Fireproof. Keep in a well-ventilated room. Separated from incompatible materials. See Chemical Dangers. Cool. Dry. |
| IMPORTANT DATA | Physical State; Appearance COLOURLESS COMPRESSED GAS, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. Physical dangers Chemical dangers Occupational exposure limits |
Routes of exposure The substance can be absorbed into the body in hazardous amounts by inhalation. Inhalation risk Effects of short-term exposure |
| PHYSICAL PROPERTIES | ENVIRONMENTAL DATA | Boiling point: -145°C Melting point: -224°C Solubility in water, ml/100 ml at 0°C: 6.8 (reacts slowly) Relative vapour density (air = 1): 1.9 |
| NOTES | Do NOT take working clothes home. The occupational exposure limit value should not be exceeded during any part of the working exposure. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. |
