| TYPES OF HAZARD / EXPOSURE |
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS | PREVENTION | FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING |
| FIRE | Explodes on heating. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. | NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with hot surfaces. | Water in large amounts, alcohol-resistant foam, powder. |
| EXPLOSION | Risk of fire and explosion on contact with many substances (see Chemicals Dangers). | In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position. | |
| EXPOSURE | AVOID ALL CONTACT! | ||
| Inhalation | Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Cough. Dizziness. Headache. Sore throat. Weakness. | Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. | Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention. See Notes. |
| Skin | MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Pain (Further see Inhalation). | Protective gloves. Protective clothing. | Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention. |
| Eyes | Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns. | Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. | First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor. |
| Ingestion | Nausea. Shortness of breath. Vomiting. See Notes (Further see Inhalation). | Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. | Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention. See Notes. |
| SPILLAGE DISPOSAL | PACKAGING & LABELLING | Personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles. Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. | Xn Symbol N Symbol R: 5-22-37/38-41-43-48/22-50 S: (2-)22-26-36/37/39-61 |
| EMERGENCY RESPONSE | SAFE STORAGE | NFPA Code: H2; F0; R3. | Fireproof. Separated from incompatible materials. See Chemical Dangers. Cool. Dry. Well closed. |
| IMPORTANT DATA | Physical State; Appearance VERY HYGROSCOPIC WHITE NEEDLES OR FLAKES. Chemical dangers Occupational exposure limits |
Routes of exposure The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion. Inhalation risk Effects of short-term exposure Effects of long-term or repeated exposure |
| PHYSICAL PROPERTIES | ENVIRONMENTAL DATA | Decomposes below boiling point at <70°C Melting point: 33°C Relative density (water = 1): 1.2 Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20°C: good Vapour pressure, kPa at 47°C: 1.3 Relative vapour density (air = 1): 1.1 Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.00 Flash point: explodes at 129°C Auto-ignition temperature: 265°C Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: -1.5 |
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. |
| NOTES | Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The symptoms of nausea, vomiting and cyanosis do not become manifest until several hours have past. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. The relation between odour and the occupational exposure limit cannot be indicated. Decomposition during storage may cause a build-up of pressure in the container. Also consult ICSC # 0709 Hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification. |
