TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames. Water spray. Alcohol-resistant foam. Dry powder. Carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION     In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

EXPOSURE
Inhalation   Ventilation. Fresh air, rest.
Skin Dry skin. Protective gloves. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
Eyes   Safety goggles. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Diarrhoea. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Rinse mouth.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING
Ventilation. Collect leaking liquid in covered containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE SAFE STORAGE
NFPA Code: H1; F1; R0 Separated from strong oxidants.

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
HYGROSCOPIC, VISCOUS COLOURLESS LIQUID.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on heating producing corrosive fumes of acrolein. Reacts with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV: mist 10 mg/m³ as TWA (ACGIH 2005).
MAK: 50 mg/m³ (Inhalable fraction) Peak limitation category: I(2) Pregnancy risk group: C (DFG 2006).

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a nuisance-causing concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.
