| TYPES OF HAZARD / EXPOSURE |
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS | PREVENTION | FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING |
| FIRE | Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. | In case of fire in the surroundings: powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide. | |
| EXPLOSION | In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. | ||
| EXPOSURE | PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE! | IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR! | |
| Inhalation | Cough. Sore throat. (See Ingestion). | Local exhaust or breathing protection. | Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention. |
| Skin | MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Pain. (Further see Inhalation). | Protective gloves. Protective clothing. | Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention. |
| Eyes | Redness. Pain. | Safety goggles, or face shield. | First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor. |
| Ingestion | Elevated body temperature. Sweating. Ataxia. Loss of appetite. Shortness of breath. Laboured breathing. Weakness. Headache. Nausea. Vomiting. Abdominal pain. Dizziness. Drowsiness. | Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. | Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention. |
| SPILLAGE DISPOSAL | PACKAGING & LABELLING | Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Personal protection: chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus. | T+ Symbol N Symbol R: 24/25-26-36/37/38-40-50/53 S: (1/2-)22-28-36/37-45-52-60-61 Note: A UN Hazard Class: 6.1 UN Pack Group: II |

| EMERGENCY RESPONSE | SAFE STORAGE | Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-61GT2-II NFPA Code: H4; F1; R0 |
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from food and feedstuffs. See Chemical Dangers. Well closed. Keep in a well-ventilated room. |
| IMPORTANT DATA | Physical State; Appearance WHITE OR TAN FLAKES OR POWDER, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. Chemical dangers Occupational exposure limits |
Routes of exposure The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion. Inhalation risk Effects of short-term exposure Effects of long-term or repeated exposure |
| PHYSICAL PROPERTIES | ENVIRONMENTAL DATA | Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 25°C: 33 | The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. The substance may cause long-term effects in the aquatic environment. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use. |
| NOTES | Humans are generally exposed to technical grade of the substance which usually contain toxic microcontaminants such as polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Do NOT take working clothes home. Also consult ICSC 0069 (Pentachlorophenol). Card has been partly updated in October 2004. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification, Emergency Response. |
