TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames. Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! AVOID EXPOSURE OF (PREGNANT) WOMEN! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation Nausea. Vomiting. Abdominal pain. Headache. Convulsions. Ventilation (not if powder), local exhaust, or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Pain. (See Inhalation). Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Pain. Redness. Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection if powder. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion (See Inhalation). Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING
Do NOT wash away into sewer. Sweep spilled substance into containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting, then remove to safe place. (Extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus). EU classification

EMERGENCY RESPONSE SAFE STORAGE
Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-61G67
NFPA Code: H3; F1; R2
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs.

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS CRYSTALS.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes of sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. Reacts violently with strong oxidants.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV not established.

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance irritates the eyes and the skin. The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system, resulting in convulsions and respiratory failure. Exposure at high concentrations may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxic effects upon human reproduction.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Relative density (water = 1): 1.15
Solubility in water: good
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 14.5
Flash point: see Notes
Auto-ignition temperature: 244°C
The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms.

NOTES
The substance is combustible but no flash point is available in literature.
Black Leaf 40 is a trade name.
Card has been partially updated in August 2007: see EU Classification.
