TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. NO open flames. Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! AVOID ALL CONTACT! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation Cough. Laboured breathing. Sore throat. Wheezing. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes). Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
Skin Redness. Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Redness. Pain. Safety goggles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Burning sensation. Sore throat. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Rest. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING

Separated from bases, acids, alcohols, amines, amides, phenols, mercaptans, food and feedstuffs. See Chemical Dangers. Cool. Dry.

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS TO YELLOW LIQUID, WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

Chemical dangers
The substance may polymerize due to warming and under the influence of strong bases and metal compounds. May explode on heating. The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic fumes, including nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide. Reacts slowly with water at room temperature, vigorously at high temperature; violently with alcohols, acids, bases, amines, amides, phenols, mercaptans. Attacks plastic and rubber.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV: 0.005 ppm as TWA; (ACGIH 2004).
MAK: 0.005 ppm, 0.046 mg/m³; Peak limitation category: I(1); sensitization of respiratory tract and skin (Sah); Pregnancy risk group: D; (DFG 2006).

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly especially on spraying and heating.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance and the aerosol is irritating to the eyes the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of aerosol may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Inhalation of aerosols may cause asthmatic reactions (see Notes). The substance may cause effects on the skin, resulting in sensitization.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Boiling point at 13.3kPa: 217°C
Melting point: -60°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.1
Solubility in water: reaction
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: 0.04
Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.0
Flash point: 155°C c.c.
Auto-ignition temperature: 430°C
Explosive limits, vol% in air: 0.7-4.5
The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms.

NOTES
Temperature of decomposition unknown in literature.
The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential.
The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential.
Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact with this substance.
The symptoms of acute intoxications may not become manifest until several hours.
The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient.
Do NOT take working clothes home.
Card has been partly updated in October 2004. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification, Emergency Response.
Card has been partially updated in July 2007: see Occupational Exposure Limits, Ingestion First Aid.
