| TYPES OF HAZARD / EXPOSURE |
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS | PREVENTION | FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING |
| FIRE | Flammable. | NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. | Powder, AFFF, foam, carbon dioxide. |
| EXPLOSION | Above 58°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed. | Above 58°C use a closed system, ventilation. | In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. |
| EXPOSURE | |||
| Inhalation | Cough. Sore throat. | Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. | Fresh air, rest. |
| Skin | Dry skin. Redness. | Protective gloves. | Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. |
| Eyes | Redness. Pain. | Safety spectacles. | First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor. |
| Ingestion | Drowsiness. Unconsciousness. (Further see Inhalation). | Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. | Rinse mouth. Rest. Refer for medical attention. |
| SPILLAGE DISPOSAL | PACKAGING & LABELLING | Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. | UN Hazard Class: 3 UN Pack Group: III |
| EMERGENCY RESPONSE | SAFE STORAGE | Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-30S2243 or 30GF1-III NFPA Code: H1; F2; R0 |
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants. |
| IMPORTANT DATA | Physical State; Appearance COLOURLESS LIQUID, WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. Chemical dangers Occupational exposure limits |
Routes of exposure The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and by ingestion. Inhalation risk Effects of short-term exposure Effects of long-term or repeated exposure |
| PHYSICAL PROPERTIES | ENVIRONMENTAL DATA | Boiling point: 177°C Melting point: -77°C Relative density (water = 1): 0.97 Solubility in water: none Vapour pressure, kPa at 30°C: 0.93 Relative vapour density (air = 1): 4.9 Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.08 Flash point: 58°C c.c. Auto-ignition temperature: 334°C |
| NOTES | Environmental effects from the substance have not been investigated adequately. Cyclohexylacetate is more narcotic and more lethal to animals at lower concentrations than other acetates but beeing of lower volatility, it is less hazardous from the industrial point of view. The relation between odour and the occupational exposure limit cannot be indicated. Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See section Emergency Response. |
