TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.   In case of fire in the surroundings: use appropriate extinguishing media.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! AVOID ALL CONTACT! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation Abdominal pain. Confusion. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Drowsiness. Headache. Vomiting. Loss of muscular coordination. Paralysis. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes). Closed system and ventilation. Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
Skin Skin disorders. (Further see Inhalation). Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes   Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Difficulty in swallowing. Abdominal pain. Confusion. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Dullness. Headache. Vomiting. Loss of muscular coordination. Paralysis. (Further see Inhalation). Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING
Personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. EU classification

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS SOLID IN VARIOUS FORMS.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on heating or producing toxic fumes including arsenic (see ICSC 0013).

Occupational exposure limits
TLV not established.
MAK not established.

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed, especially if powdered.

Effects of short-term exposure
See Notes.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Melting point (decomposes): 160°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.76
Solubility in water: poor

NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
The symptoms of systemic arsenic poisoning do not become manifest until hours after the exposure.
Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See sections EU classification, Emergency Response.
