TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Explosive. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with hot surfaces. Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion. Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Use non-sparking handtools. Do NOT expose to friction or shock. In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.

EXPOSURE   STRICT HYGIENE! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation Headache. Flushing of the face. Dizziness. Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! (Further see Inhalation). Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Redness. Pain. Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Flushing of the face. Headache. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting. Shock or collapse. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention immediately.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Remove all ignition sources. Personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. E Symbol

Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE SAFE STORAGE
Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-10G1.1
NFPA Code: H2; F3; R4
Store only if stabilized. Store in an area without drain or sewer access. Fireproof. Well closed. Separated from food and feedstuffs.

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS TO YELLOW VISCOUS LIQUID OR PALE YELLOW CRYSTALS

Chemical dangers
Heating may cause violent combustion or explosion. May decompose explosively on shock, friction, or concussion. On combustion, forms toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides. Reacts with ozone causing explosion hazard.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV: 0.05 ppm as TWA; (skin); (ACGIH 2005).
MAK: BAT issued; Carcinogen category: 3B; skin absorption (H); (DFG 2005).

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
A harmful contamination of the air will not or will only very slowly be reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C; on spraying or dispersing, however, much faster.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance is irritating to the eyes. The substance may cause effects on the cardiovascular system, resulting in lowering of blood pressure. Medical observation is indicated.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated exposure leads to marked tolerance. Short absence from exposure may lead to sudden death.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Decomposes below boiling point at 218 °C
Melting point: 13°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.6
Solubility in water: poor
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: 0.03
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 7.8
Auto-ignition temperature: 270°C
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 1.62
The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms.

NOTES
Combustion in a confined space may turn into detonation.
Use of alcoholic beverages enhances the harmful effect.
Other UN numbers are: UN 0144 Nitroglycerin, solution in alcohol with more than 1% but not more than 10% nitroglycerin; UN Haz Class 1.1D. UN 1204 Nitroglycerin, solution in alcohol with not more than 1% of nitroglycerin; UN Haz Class 3, Pack Group II. UN 3064 Nitroglycerin, solution in alcohol with more than 1% but not more than 5% of nitroglycerin, UN Haz Class 3, Pack Group II.
An added stabilizer or inhibitor can influence the toxicological properties of this substance, consult an expert.
