TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames. Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! AVOID ALL CONTACT! AVOID EXPOSURE OF (PREGNANT) WOMEN! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation   Local exhaust or breathing protection. Refer for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! See Ingestion. Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Photophobia. Face shield. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Fever. Tremors. Absence of light reflex. Abdominal cramps. Convulsions. Diarrhoea. Drowsiness. Nausea. Shock or collapse. Vomiting. Weakness. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Rest. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING
Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Personal protection: P3 filter respirator for toxic particles. T Symbol

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
ODOURLESS WHITE CRYSTALLINE POWDER.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic fumes and irritating fumes including hydrogen chloride.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV not established.

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system, resulting in convulsions, respiratory failure.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma. The substance may have effects on the nervous system, resulting in tissue lesions, blindness. Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes malformations in human babies.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Melting point: 164-165°C
Solubility in water: none
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 7.54 (calculated)
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. Bioaccumulation of this chemical may occur along the food chain, for example in milk, aquatic organisms. The substance may cause long-term effects in the aquatic environment.

NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties.
Acigena, Almederm, AT7, AT17, Bilevon, Exofene, Fostril, Gamophen, G-11, Germa-Medica, Hexosan, Septisol, Surofene are trade names.
Card has been partly updated in April 2005. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification, Emergency Response.
