The 2008 World Congress on Safety and Health at Work

As previously announced, the XVIII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work will be held in Seoul, Korea, at the Convention and Exhibition Centre (COEX), from 29 June to 2 July 2008.

This Congress is jointly organized by the International Labour Office (ILO), the International Social Security Association (ISSA), and the Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). The motto for the Congress is «Safety and Health at Work: A Societal Responsibility».

The programme is comprised of the Safety and Health Summit, a Plenary Session, Technical Sessions, Regional Meetings, Symposia, a Speakers' Corner, Poster Sessions as well as the International Film and Multimedia Festival.

The Safety and Health Summit will be held on the opening day of the World Congress. Selected leaders and decision-makers committed to the improvement of occupational safety and health will be invited to reflect on safety and health at work as a basic human right and a mean to economic growth and development. The purpose of the Summit will be to stimulate political commitment and demonstrate that good occupational safety and health policies create a win-win situation for employers, workers and society at large. As a result, occupational safety and health should have a more prominent place on national and international agendas.

The International Film and Multimedia Festival is an integral part of the Congress offering an overview of films and multimedia productions from all over the world. Six prizes will be awarded at the closing ceremony of the Congress. For further information, click on www.safety2008korea.org/eng/program/pro_festival.jsp.
