Selected leaders and decision-makers committed to the improvement of occupational safety and health will be invited to reflect on safety and health at work as a basic human right and a means for economic growth and develoment. The purpose of the summit will be to stimulate political commitment and demonstrate that good occupational safety and health policies are beneficial to employers, workers and society at large.

About 30 symposia will be organized by the ILO, ISSA, KOSHA and other organizations including international organizations and institutions, public and private organizations and academic institutions. The symposia will cover areas that reflect the theme and motto of the Congress.

This will be the first World Congress under the new Director of the ILO Labour Protection Department (PROTRAV), Dr Toru Itani, the new Director of the ILO Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SafeWork), Dr Sameera Al-Tuwaijri, and the new Secretary General of ISSA, Mr Hans-Horst Konkolewsky.
