The US National Library of Medicine has compiled a new Hurricane Katrina web page http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/enviro/hurricane.html on toxic chemical and environmental health information resources for health workers and the interested public. The information fact sheets, guides, databases and portals are from various US states and national institutes, including the National Library itself, and international bodies. Links are provided to information on chemicals that may be released as a result of the Katrina disaster and on environmental health concerns following the wind and flood damage. It includes guidance on occupational safety and health issues associated with natural disasters as well as specific information on hurricane Katrina-diseases and hazards that rescue and clean up workers are exposed to. The web page also offers access to WISER, the Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders, that provides a wide range of information on hazardous substances. Numerous links give access to information in Spanish. To contact the specialized information services of the National Library of Medicine, send an email to tehip@teh.nlm.nih.gov. Updated by CD.
