World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2006

This year again, on 28 April, workers' and employers' organizations concurrently with governments and safety and health institutions around the world will celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. In 2003, the ILO and its tripartite partners began to observe the World Day to focus international attention on the establishment and promotion of a safety and health culture at work. This year, the overall theme is Decent Work - Safe work - HIV/AIDS.

The Internet site www.ilo.org/safework/safeday provides details about this major annual event. It also gives access to numerous products for its promotion, including a CIS bibliography on Decent Work and HIV/AIDS.

Various initiatives are taken in many countries at the national and enterprise levels to celebrate this event. In particular, the French government associates itself to 28 April and has published a press release summarizing the main actions in the area of occupational safety and health in the coming years [ Read the press release ].

On this occasion, the Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) of the ILO has produced a series of posters in close cooperation with the Workers' Group of the Governing Body and the Global Unions to promote the ratification of key occupational safety and health Conventions. The posters may be viewed and printed in both A4 or A3 formats at the following address: www.ilo.org/ratify.
