The 6th edition of the ILO Thesaurus, a compilation of more than 4,000 terms relating to the world of work, is now available online on the World Wide Web. The ILO Thesaurus contains terms on a wide variety of topics relating to economic and social development, including labour and employment policy, human resources planning, labour standards and labour relations, vocational training, etc. Every term contained in the ILO Thesaurus is presented in English, French, and Spanish. Familiarity with the ILO Thesaurus makes it easier to find material in Labordoc, ILO Library's catalogue.

One area of major interest to the ILO, namely the occupational safety and health, has been developed in greater detail in the CIS Occupational Safety and Health Thesaurus (CISTHES). Based on more than 40 years of activity by the CIS of studying, abstracting and indexing the literature on this subject, CISTHES is also trilingual. It is a guide to information retrieval on occupational safety and health related topics.

Made available online to the public in September 2004, this version 1.2 represents the second generation of the user interface. CISTHES now contains new features to match better its functionality with the use of the CISDOC bibliographic database. Print copies of the ILO Thesaurus and CISTHES may be requested respectively from inform@ilo.org and cis@ilo.org.
