Protecting Workers from Ultraviolet Radiation

The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) has announced the publication of a new book entitled Protecting Workers from Ultraviolet Radiation. This publication was prepared in collaboration with the International Labour Organization and the World Health Organization and involved the participation of experts from several countries. Dr Shengli Niu of the ILO Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SafeWork) was one of the editors.

The objective of this book is to provide information and advice on protecting workers from ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure. The adverse health effects of both acute and chronic UVR exposures are reviewed, emphasizing solar UVR exposure of the outdoor worker. Epidemiological observations and health consequences concerning exposure to UVR (180-400nm) are also addressed.

The text of the book may be freely downloaded here.
