CIS News, November 2006Swedish Institute for Working Life to be shut downMikael Sjöberg, Director-General of Arbetslivsinstitutet (the Swedish Institute for Working Life (NIWL)), announced on 10 Oct. 2006 that NIWL will cease operations as of 1 July 2007, as a result of recent budget proposal put forward by the Swedish government. The Institute has been a world leader in work environment research. The insights of NIWL scientists have shaped the work environment that Sweden has today, carrying out research on issues covering all aspects of working life. The Library of NIWL has a unique collection of both national and international literature on occupational safety and health (OSH) and conditions of work. NIWL is CIS’s national centre in Sweden. We at CIS hope that NIWL’s collection of information resources can be preserved as a precious resource for the Swedish and international OSH community, and will gladly offer our help in this if needed. We also hope that the staff of the Institute, with whom CIS has had a long period of fruitful collaboration, will be able to find employment in areas where their expertise can be turned to good use.
