The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work in Bilbao has developed a web site dedicated to the animated character Napo, known for his adventures involving occupational safety and health.
Napo was originally invented by a small group of OSH professionals in response to the need for high quality information products. The NAPO Consortium, which groups together INRS (France), HSE (United Kingdom), DGUV (Germany), INAIL (Italy), Suva (Switzerland) and AUVA (Austria), emerged in the 1990s. The Consortium decided to coordinate the production of safety and health audiovisual products, trying to overcome cultural differences and make them accessible to all European countries. Napo was then designed and its first video, "Best Sign Story", won awards at the World Congress of Sao Paulo in 1999 and at national film festivals in France and Germany. Napo’s stories should not be seen as training or teaching films but rather as means to sensitize people to the importance of OSH through entertaining and engaging characters. The new web site is an interactive support from which you can learn more about Napo and his friends and download the videos.
