Improving safety, health and working conditions in Mongolia

Mr. Tsuyoshi Kawakami, Senior Specialist on Occupational Safety and Health at the ILO Subregional Office for East Asia, has received the Badge of Premier Personnel of Social Security and Labour Sector for his contribution to improving safety, health and working conditions in Mongolia. Given by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labour of Mongolia, the award was accepted by Mr. Kawakami and shared with many of his colleagues as recognition of the ILO's work in this area.

Mr. Kawakami's work and efforts contributed to the establishment and undertaking of a national OSH programme in Mongolia that includes stronger legal frameworks and proper inspection mechanisms. Premises of the key ILO OSH conventions such as the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155), the Occupational Health Services Convention, 1985 (No. 161) and the Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 (No. 81) are included. He contributed to the extension of OSH protection to many home workers, farmers and construction workers by applying the best practice approach in OSH and by developing related training programmes and practical tools that have also been integrated in the national programme.
