A meeting of Participating Institutions (PIs) in the International Chemical Safety Cards (ICSC) project was held at the Technical University of Munich in Germany, 16-20 April. The meeting was organized by the International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS - a joint programme of the WHO, ILO and UNEP) and the German Research Foundation's Senate Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft zur Prüfung gesundheitsschädlicher Arbeitsstoffe). It was attended by a total of 22 experts in toxicology, chemistry and emergency response from 12 countries, along with representatives from the European Commission, ILO/CIS and WHO. The meeting was preceded on Sunday 15 April, by an Expert Group Meeting on the development of practical arrangements for the implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in the ICSCs. In all, 37 new or revised cards were completed and will be made available on the CIS web site. The next peer review meeting will be held in October 2007.
