Dr Sameera Al-Tuwaijri, Director of the International Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment (SafeWork), and her entire staff are honoured to invite you to attend the first-ever lecture on nanotechnology at the ILO, on Thursday, 27 November 2008, from 12:00am to 2:00pm (room XI, R-2 South), by Dr John Howard MD, JD, MPH, LLM, former Director of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the USA and chair of the Steering Committee of the 5th edition of the ILO Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety. Dr Howard will present an overview of the emerging area of nanotechnology. He will discuss both the industrial applications of nanotechnology and the societal implications of this new technology from an occupational perspective. Dr Howard will discuss how the health of nanotechnology workers can be protected and will provide an overview of the development of national and international standards in the area of nanotechnology. This lecture will provide an excellent opportunity to bring together colleagues from the ILO. Following the lecture, there will be time for questions. The general public is also welcome to attend.
