Commonwealth of Independent States adopts international OSH standards

    The Executive Committee of the Commowealth of Independent States (CIS) organized, jointly with the ILO, a two day conference on the occupational safety and health situation in the CIS and the implementation of a new inter-state standard - GOST 12.0.230-2007: "Occupational safety standards system. Occupational safety and health management systems. General requirements"

    The standard was adopted in March, 2007 by eleven (out of twelve) members of the CIS and is fully in line with ILO principles embodied in the ILO Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (ILO-OSH 2001) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187).

    In the final resolution, conference participants reconfirmed their countries' commitment to implement the new GOST and to develop a national-level systematic approach to occupational safety and health.
